Renaissance of Wonder

John Law's Renaissance meets Tom Lawton's Wonder.

Join us for a spectacular start to the new Year with a meeting of Laws (Law and Lawton) in Malmesbury's historical and splendid Abbey set in the centre of this Wiltshire market town.

Renaissance is led by John Law (midi keyboards, laptop) who is joined by long-term colleague saxophonist/composer Jon Lloyd, playing ambient, minimalist music over electronic pads.

"Wonder is a dynamic moving sculpture by Tom Lawton that shows us how everything is interconnected."

Together they bring a spellbinding fusion of music and art within the great hall of this sacred space.

The concept of Renaissance is site-specific and matched carefully to the acoustic environment: churches, old buildings, galleries and unusual acoustic spaces such as caves. The music is presented alongside hypnotic live visuals created by Patrick Dunn (who specialises in performing live visuals to music, currently touring and working with Tangerine Dream), creating a total experience of meditative mindfulness.

The backing pads, put together by Jasper Law, are created from looped vocal music, taken from some of the best sacred music from the Golden Age of European Polyphony: sampling works by Byrd, Tallis, Palestrina, Victoria, Josquin, Ockeghem.

Wonder's impact on the public is already profound with hundreds of positive impressions and incredible interpretations from visitors far and wide. Some people are moved to dance, some to song, others to a state of deep calm and some are even moved to tears. The experience is universally uplifting and peaceful.

"Enigmatic, mysterious and beautiful. Tom's incredible creation echoes DNA and has the essence of infinity & eternity. Malmesbury Abbey seems the most befitting place for Wonder to find its first ever home. Here in the heart of our town for the marvel and enjoyment of us all." - Rev Oliver Ross

We are delighted to be hosting such an event in association with the Abbey as part of Law's UK tour with Arts Council of England Funding.
